I have a need deep within to create...to capture my world through a personal visual language. With cloth, thread and paint, I represent the moment, celebrating simplicity and beauty whilst gaining satisfaction and connection from the process of making. The act of recording visual information through rudimentary sketches, photographs, colour studies and collage on paper is a way to get what is in my head onto a surface. I can interrogate it and respond to it through a diverse range of materials. Using this as a rich resource I begin a textile representation of these moments in time. During a period of time recently, full of people and places but devoid of creativity, feelings of being unfulfilled were fairly prominent. I began to consider what makes me fulfilled....complete? As a creative response to my ruminations I began to produce a serious of work incorporating empty vessels....bowls. They became my narrative and as each one is produced it’s with consideration to what contributes to fulfilment for me. |
