With cloth, thread and paint, I represent the moment, celebrating simplicity and beauty whilst gaining satisfaction and connection from the process of making. The act of recording visual information in sketchbooks, through rudimentary sketches, photographs, colour studies, print and collage is the language used to capture a sense of place at a given moment in time. This then gives me the opportunity to interrogate and respond immediately whilst considering how to develop work more thoughtfully with cloth. The greatest gift from the lockdown period was to allow opportunity to walk the same paths every day for an entire year. Watching and recording the changing seasons, observing the tenacity, beauty and resilience of the hedgerows captivated my creativity. My current work is a direct response to this |
